Home Remedies For Foot Swelling

Swelling in your feet and ankles is called edema, and there are a lot of things that can cause the problem, from high blood pressure to pregnancy. You need to be able to distinguish between harmless swelling and edema. In the case of edema, if you press on the puffy area, it stays pitted for a few seconds after. This could be a sign of heart, liver or kidney problems . There are many things that you can try at home using readily available ingredients to take care of foot pain naturally.

Home Remedies For Foot Swelling  

1. Epsom Salt 

  • Put two to three tablespoons of Epsom salt in a tub of warm water.Soak your feet in the tub for 10 to 15 minutes.The salt can make your feet dry, so apply some moisturizer after soaking them.

2. Apply cider vinegar

  • Apple cider vinegar helps to remove water and fluid retained in the body. To get rid of swollen feet rapidly, soak them in a solution of half water and half natural apple cider vinegar. Applying a little of apple cider vinegar over the swollen foot and massaging for about 5 minutes can also be helpful in relieving swollen feet.

3. Sage

  • Gently rub a handful of sage leaves between your hands and then put them in a pot with a little less than one cup of apple cider vinegar.Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for five minutes.Soak a cotton cloth in the warm solution and then hold it on the affected area.Repeat the process several times.

4. Rosemary oil

  • Mix four drops each of eucalyptus oil and rosemary oil and two drops of peppermint oil in hot water.Soak your feet in it for about 10 minutes.

5. Salt Water Soak

  • Adding a healthy dose of Epsom salts to the tub is another way to boost that bath. Like the grapefruit oil, you can also just use a bucket, if you’re only having swelling in your feet and ankles. If your calves are swollen, too, a bath is probably your best bet.

6. Baking Powder

  • 1 mixture of baking powder and rice water (boil rice and use the starchy water). Example: take 2 teaspoons of baking powder in 2 teaspoons of rice water. Make a paste and apply it over your feet. You can also take a larger quantity of this paste, add some water to it and soak your feet in it

7. coriander seeds

  • Boil 2 to 3 tablespoons of coriander seeds in 2 cups of water, until the mixture reduces to half. Cool it off and soak your leg in it. This home remedy for swollen feet has proved to be very effective in reducing the foot swelling as well as the pain.

8. Mustard seeds

  • Take a handful of mustard seeds and grind them. This can be added to half a bucket of warm to hot water and the feet soaked in the water for 15 minutes. A poultice can be prepared by making a paste of mustard seeds along with water and applying the paste on the feet. Cover with a gauze and allow the paste to remain for half an hour. This will control the swelling and pain.

9. Feet Exercises

  • Repeat for ten minutes with at least 7-6 circles with each foot. This is an excellent exercise that can relax and relieve the muscles and also to increase the blood circulation to the feet. Another fun filled exercise is to spread marbles on the floor and try to take them with your toes. This will flex your toes and muscles and ease the tension.

10. Hot Water Bucket 

  • One of the best natural remedies for swollen feet. Take half a bucket of hot water not scalding hot, or you will be reading.Soak your feet in the hot water first and switch to the cold water bucket after about 10-15 minutes. Switch back to hot water one last time, this time for about 5 minutes.
